Let me introduce myself.
I'm B. Paul Knight. I was first licensed on June 8, 2007. I have lived in Abilene since about 1996. I have always wanted to get my ham license, but just never had the time to do what needed to be done to obtain it. I finally made it a priority, and very glad I did.
I have found the "Ham" community to be very supportive to new comers, and willing to help you get started. It is like one big family. Everyone works together to get things done that need to be done.

I have found it a great way to serve my community in it's time of need, such as an emergency situation, or to help out during events. It's a great way to meet new people and learn new things. It's just a great way to get involved with people and events.
Here in Abilene Texas, as with most places, there are clubs and groups that a licensed ham can be a part of. These people are great people to work with. I would highly suggest joining in on the group and club activities. You can learn and have fun at the same time. Even if you are just thinking about getting you license, you are still welcomed with open arms, and you can still learn from those that do have a license. Make that move and get your license.
